About Me

My diverse financial career spanned over thirty years with stints as a portfolio manager, stock and bond trader, mutual fund and ETF sales manager, and personal advisor and financial planner. I spent the latter part of my career doing what I loved most—advising clients of independent wealth management firms in Arizona. It was my privilege to serve on the Board of Directors of the Financial Planning Association of Greater Phoenix as President and Chairman of the Board. In addition, I was inducted into the Arizona Hall of Fame of Financial Women International in 1993. I hold the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional certification.

Interests

Born and raised in small towns in Iowa, I grew up with a strong sense of community and appreciation for the value of education. My parents set high expectations but cloaked them with lots of love and support. Their mantra to "do your best" meant focus and hard work.

I treasure family times filled with food and laughter: my grandfather's practical jokes; reunions with aunts, uncles, and cousins; holidays with siblings and their families; and especially watching the growth of my children and grandchildren. Nothing makes me smile more than the bedlam of a houseful of kids and their pets!

Fitness is a priority in my life because it makes me feel good. You might find me riding my 3-speed bicycle, hiking a trail, or swimming a few laps. My favorite spectator sport is football, and I am a loyal fan of the Iowa State Cyclones and Arizona Cardinals.

Travel is my passion and, since retired, I split my time between Arizona and Iowa. However, my favorite places are sunny beaches. Toes in the sand, sun on the face, throw in a cold drink and fresh seafood and I am in heaven! If there is music playing, even better. My preference is rock, but you might hear some country or oldies as well.

People and their stories intrigue me, and it gives me great satisfaction to help others. I love the world of investments, especially bonds, and find joy in making that world understandable to others.

A HOLIDAY GIFT FOR EVERYONE – FORGIVENESS

By Beverly Bowers, CFP®

Forgiveness means different things to different people. In general, it means to stop feeling angry or resentful toward someone for an offense, flaw, or mistake. It is an intentional decision and is a commitment to change those feelings ….. and it takes practice and sometimes it takes time. Wherever you live, whatever religion you observe […]

FINANCIAL LITERACY ASSESSMENT #2

By Beverly Bowers, CFP®

In a previous blog, I shared a three-question financial literacy assessment that is used widely in the United States and in many other countries as well. It was developed over 20 years ago by two college professors, Lusardi and Mitchell. The questions cover the concepts of compound interest, inflation, and risk diversification. I promised a […]
